Tricky Stuff on your PC: Excel Buttons

747343_buttons.jpgThere are many pre-defined shortcut buttons that don’t appear on the toolbars in Office 2003 simply because there isn’t enough room to fit them all on screen. You’ll find that you use the same functions over and over again in the Microsoft applications, particularly Word and Excel, so it makes sense to have easy access to the ones you use most. As you expand your repetoire and discover new functions you can do in these programs, you may also want to add in additional buttons to match. Here’s how to quickly add your favourite functions to toolbars as buttons…

1. Click the shaded dropdown arrow at the far right of any toolbar.  Hovering over it brings up a screen tip ‘Toolbar Options’ if you are set up to show screen tips.

2. A couple of options will appear on a floating menu – click on Add or Remove Buttons.

3. If another floating menu appears, make your choice from the list of groupings (you’ll see different groupings depending on which toolbar you’re looking at e.g. Formatting, Reviewing etc).

4. A final floating menu will appear.  The ticked items are buttons you already have on toolbars.  Choose one that isn’t ticked, and it will appear on that toolbar.

You can remove buttons in the same way, by clicking a ticked item at step 4.
